Harrah’s

  • Harrah's Las Vegas Building

Well-known by any frequent traveler to Las Vegas, Harrah’s is a number one choice for those who are looking for affordable and fun accommodations on the Las Vegas strip. With 2,677 rooms, an enormous casino and multiple towers, Harrah’s is one of the more popular hotels on the strip.

Here is my real take on Harrah’s:

Harrah’s has standard hotel rooms (think Best Western style) that are generally clean.  The advantage of Harrah’s is the awesome location and usually pretty cheap prices.  This is an ideal hotel for low rollers, business travelers and people who just use their room to sleep in.  I have been upgrading to the “premium” rooms and they are much newer/nicer.  Comfy bed and even a TV in the bathroom.  I like the small casino that is literally  just steps away from the strip sidewalk.  Less than a minute walk and you are at the Linq promenade and casino, or go the other way for a 20 second walk to Casino Royal and their $1 Michelobs.

Harrah’s Las Vegas Casino & Hotel: A Little History

First built in 1971, the property was built as a Holiday Inn that was known as River Queen Casino. Over the years, more towers were built and additional changes were made, such as tearing down the original hotel that sat on the property and turning the area into a parking area for hotel and casino guests.

The hotel was changed a little and renamed to Harrah’s Las Vegas in 1992, which was the year that Harrah’s Entertainment took over and separated itself after once being a subsidiary of Holiday Inn. Eventually, the theme was changed from the old “riverboat” theme, and the hotel and casino areas were completely renovated and redecorated to host a new and exciting carnival-type theme.

What to Do and See at Harrah’s

Harrah’s Las Vegas is a favorite for many Las Vegas travelers simply because there is so much to do without ever leaving the property. For those who enjoy gambling, there is an impressive casino that features slots, keno, a race and sports book, table games and more. There’s no reason to even visit any of the other casinos on the strip when you can enjoy all of the action right there. In fact, there are more than 1,200 slot machines in Harrah’s, so you’re sure to be able to find one that suits your fancy.

For foodies or simply those who are starving after a long day of drinking and gambling, there are plenty of dining options. There is a buffet, the Oyster Bar and the Fulton Street Food Hall if you’re looking for something casual. Country fans are sure to want to stop by Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill for a burger and a beer. If you’re looking for upscale, there is even a Ruth’s Chris Steak House location.

If you’re looking for entertainment, you can catch a show at the comedy club, watch a musical or enjoy the performance of a quartet. There’s also a spa, multiple bars and plenty of shopping options to help you enjoy your stay.
