Question: |
Which Hotel and Casino is the Biggest and/or Largest located on the Las Vegas Strip? |
Answer: There are several answers to this question depending on how you look at it. The largest single hotel is the MGM Grand at 5,044 rooms and largest single casino is Mandalay Bay at 160,000 Sq. Ft. However, if you combine the 3 towers at Venetian/Palazzo, there are over 7,000 rooms and the combined casinos of Wynn/Encore total 186,000 Sq. Ft. |

Question: |
Are there any slot machines anywhere that still use coins rather than tickets? |
Answer: They are definitely on the endangered species list but still can be found here and there around town, mostly off the Las Vegas Strip. They have been recently seen downtown at the Vegas Club and Fitzgerald’s, on the Boulder Strip at the Eastside Cannery. The only place on the Strip with them left is the Sahara. Further out, the small, non-hotel Skyline Casino in Henderson is a well known coin-dropper spot and the Gold Spike in Jean (about 15 minutes south of Vegas on the 15) is boldly advertising them on their marquee out front. |

Question: |
Where do you get all these facts (no. of rooms/tables/machines, casino size etc.) from and what do you do to keep these up to date? |
Answer: The information on the site is collected from a variety of sources and I tried to use official numbers where possible. The casino business is highly regulated in Nevada so the Nevada Gaming Commission is one of the main places I use for information, particularly on casino size and number of games. I also used information from the casinos themselves as well as several other Vegas websites that I trust. It is all kept in a MySQL database along with all of the other information; such as restaurants, amenities and ratings, so it is all in 1 place for easy updating. Whenever I hear of a change like a new restaurant or closed nightclub, I will manually update the database then periodically go through EVERY casino and verify all the information is still accurate. |

Question: |
What are the rooms at the Flamingo like? |
Answer: There are 2 kinds of rooms at the Flamingo, Standard and "Go" rooms. The standard rooms are basic, middle of the road older Vegas rooms. Certainly nothing special but definitely clean and worth the usual decent price. The Go Rooms are newly remodeled in a horrendous pink, black and white get up. I have never stayed in one but the pictures on their site say it all. These rooms tend be priced considerably higher and for that price you can definitely do better at other hotels in town. While the Flamingo rooms are nothing to write home about, it does have 2 great things going for it. The pool is Top 5 in Vegas, not quite Mandalay or MGM but definitely a notch above most else. Second, the location is just about perfect for a base to explore the Strip. Dead center Las Vegas Strip with 100 casinos within a stone’s throw include Caesars and Bellagio right across the street. Question: |
I am organizing a high end or upscale dinner for 5-8 couples, 16 people... Can the majority of the high end restaurants handle this size, with reservations of course?
|
Answer: The short answer is yes, virtually every restaurant in Vegas can handle a party of 16. The long answer was enlightening for me. I called a few places and all of them can handle a party of 16. The way they handle it varies from place to place. Bellagio books all parties of 10 or more through the group sales department and they offer a fixed menu for each restaurant with an automatic 20% gratuity. They recommend that you book no later than 2 weeks prior. The Venetian lets each restaurant handle their own reservations. I spoke with Delmonico Steakhouse and they will book up until the day of, offer a private room for a $3000 minimum and there is no automatic gratuity, which has to be the first time I have seen that. |
